01. The bond
How the asset protection bond works.
Your council may require an asset protection permit and refundable bond before building work. The bond covers possible damage to the kerb, footpath, crossover and nature strip.
Before work starts
The council sets permit conditions and may hold a bond while building work is underway.
During the build
Heavy vehicles and deliveries use the same crossover throughout a build. That can damage the concrete and kerb.
At final inspection
The council checks public assets and may withhold some or all of the bond if repair work is needed.
If replacement is needed
The new crossover needs to meet the council's approved width, levels, drainage and finish.
Ask your council how long refunds take after final inspection.

Does my crossover actually need replacing?
Sometimes not. Minor marks may be fine, while cracks, broken edges or a drop at the kerb may need repair. We can inspect it before you commit to replacement.
Who applies for the permit?
We can handle the application and council contact if that is included in the quote. If you already have a permit, bring the approved plans to the site visit.
How long does the whole thing take?
Permit and refund times depend on your council. The refund usually follows final inspection, so start the permit process early.
We've run out of money after the build. Can we stage it?
Yes. We can quote the crossover, driveway and later outdoor work separately. Your permit and inspection dates will help decide what needs to happen first.
